Khenpo Gawang Rinpoche
has been a Tibetan Buddhist monk since he was 10. Wishing to study Buddhism
deeply, at 19, he moved to Southern India and entered the college at
Nam dro ling Monastery. There he studied for 9 more years completing
the equivalent of a PhD.
In 2004, he was sent to America to assist another Buddhist teacher.
He met a student from here who requested he consider moving to Memphis
to establish a meditation center. After visiting several times and completing
his assignment, Khenpo Gawang moved to Memphis and created Pema Karpo
Meditation Center.
Khenpo has written one book and is working on another to be published
in the late fall. He teaches regularly in English at the center, works
with western translators translating Tibetan Buddhist texts and commentaries
into English, and wishes to become more active locally in creating bridges
among different faiths and groups.
